Why don’t progressive liberals get it? With all their posturing, preening, whining and crying about how the country should be run, it is amazing to me that they miss the point. Collectively and unanimously, they miss the point: IT IS THE UNION, DAMMIT! Nothing is more important than the preservation of the Union. Thousands of Americans died establishing this Union, and six hundred thousand Americans died fighting to preserve it, and the Union survived even stronger than before. Abraham Lincoln certainly got it. Thomas Jefferson got it. James Madison got it. Teddy Roosevelt, FDR, JFK, Ronald Reagan. They all got it, and Donald Trump gets it, too. Our precious Union must survive all we deign to do to it, be it in the name of extreme liberalism or in the name of extreme conservatism. We are a blessed Union of independent states come together for a common goal: The preservation of the United States of America.
Our nation, in less than two hundred and fifty years, has risen from a rag tag group of British colonies dependent on the mother country for sustenance, to become the greatest nation in the history of this Earth. From sea to shining sea. More people, from all nations, religions and customs, have become successful in America than anywhere else in the world. Common people, from horribly poor and underprivileged nations, can come here and become successful, ensuring a good life for their following generations. Descendants of those and other immigrants were dispatched out into the world more than five times in the past century to save the world from those who would rule it in their own names.
And yet, some people in this country (and around the globe) resent American exceptionalism, indeed many of them scoff at it. They want America to be just another country in the scheme of the world, nothing special, nothing exceptional, nothing inspiring. Flat, like their view of the Earth. And what if they succeed (God knows they tried hard over the last eight years), and America becomes like Venezuela, or Argentina, or worse…France? What if, thanks to the meddling and chipping away of the left, that shining city upon a hill ceases to exist? What will that do to the hopes and dreams of the rest of the world? Where will they go to explore and discover the true measure of their potential? Cuba? I think not.
An America-less world means no more hope for the future. No ambition, no thirst for knowledge, no clear view to success. No more striving to become successful. Alas, no point. What could be worse for the world than losing hope? Without hope, life has no meaning. Hope is the essence of life, it is what makes our hearts beat and our blood surge. Hope is the best possible view of the future. Hope is tangible, built with enough handles so that all people can grab hold and pull themselves aboard. Without hope there is no future. Without hope there is no past. Without hope, there is only the present. And it never changes.
