It Ain’t Vesuvius this time

They hate America, they hate Americans. It only follows that they would hate President Trump. Democrats just don’t get it. Their ideology is corrupt and their methods, out of desperation, are becoming more and more violent every week. Four special elections for Congressional seats have been held since Donald Trump took office, and in each of these regional clashes, the Democrats have trumpeted that this election was a referendum on his illegitimate presidency and the voters would come out in droves to show him that Democrats still have the power to influence the actions of the Federal….blah…blah…blah. A quick peek at the scoreboard will tell the Dems all they need to know: Trump 4 – Liberals 0.

But, please, don’t anyone tell these addle-brained Soros sycophants that their world is crumbling around them. Leave them to their fantasies and pie-in-the-sky proclamations about the looming demise of a president. I see a future where members of the Democrat party perished through their own stupidity, and like the people of Pompeii and Herculaneum, we will find their frozen bodies in the rubble of their failed ideology, stuck forever in the ash covered, entrenched positions they were in when they left the realm of relevance.

Well, Vesuvius isn’t to blame this time. The Democrats will be done in by the Four Horsemen of Ineptitude, known as Indecision, Inaction, Inertia and Procrastination. Why did the people of Pompeii and Herculaneum die so horribly? They had days to prepare. The volcano shook the Earth and belched smoke and gases for days. Why didn’t the people see the signs and evacuate? Because even though they saw the signs, a volcano of that magnitude was beyond their scope of experience or comprehension. Simply stated, they could not believe it.

This is the current state of the Democrat party. They can’t accept the fact that Hillary Clinton lost the presidential election. As in 79 A.D., the signs were there for all to see and interpret. Few people predicted the Trump win over Clinton, and no Democrats thought she could lose that election. Simply stated, they could not believe it. And they still don’t and will never believe it, despite the columns of their homes collapsing in on them and the streets in front of their houses buckling, and trees on fire, people running and screaming in panic and in terror. And they ignore the signs still. Republicans are winning everywhere, Democrats are spending millions to lose key congressional seats, the Dakota Pipeline is up and running, oil prices are coming down, employment is increasing all over the country, the stock market flourishes with positive energy, and corporate CEOs are loosening the purse strings and hiring new people. These CEOs are not dummies. They pulled in their horns during the Obama administration because they had no faith in the president or the economy. Things in America are getting better every day, thanks to Trump policies. This irritates the Dems to no end, and they have nothing but contempt for the deplorables who voted for that fascist in the White House. Please don’t anyone point out the futility of their positions. They might wake up. (What is that rumbling sound, and what the hell is that smell?)

Veterans deserve better

Way back in the innards of our local newsrag, on page 37 or so, I found a story reporting that President Trump signed a bill that would lift the onerous restrictions on firing non-performers and ne’er-do-wells from the Veteran’s Administration. Hooray!

As a veteran, I applaud this bill and wonder why the mainstream news media is not making a bigger deal out of it. If this were something to benefit the immigrant communities in this country, they would make it front page news.

Just about anyone who is injured or sick can go to any emergency room and be treated without question. Not so with the VA. Veterans stand in line for weeks, months, and years to see a doctor, and when they do see a VA doctor, all he/she wants to do is give them pills. And it doesn’t even take a trip to the pharmacy; they’ll mail them to you, no questions asked. No wonder so many veterans are addicted. These are government doctors, and as anyone who has served in the military knows, land-bound, institutionalized VA hospital doctors are not the cream of the medical crop America has to offer.

If anyone in this country deserves top of the line, first class medical treatment, it is the veteran. Go visit one of the VA hospitals if you have the stomach for it. People who work there, assisting our heroes, are undermotivated in the least. These are products of our educational system, which has inflicted upon the world a legion of millennial dipshits, ill-prepared, ill-informed, ill-educated and, I’m certain, ill-conceived. Put a bunch of them together in front of computer monitors with no supervision or direction, and before you know it, the poop-slingers are in charge of the monkey house.

I saw a quote by Lt. Colonel George Goodson, USMC (Ret) which read: “A veteran, whether active duty, discharged, retired or reserve, is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to The United States of America for an amount up to and including his life. That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country who no longer understand it.”

The focus in this country has centered on the violent, loud and obnoxious minority groups who are terribly downtrodden and unfortunate, yet they show up at demonstrations with nice, new, professionally printed signs. These groups only want one thing from us: they want more, and they aren’t shy about demanding we give them more. They are the angry, the profane and the violent.

Decent people, and American veterans are clearly in that category, shun this nonsense in order to concentrate on what is important to their families, their jobs, their religious beliefs, and to their communities. Their values are the values that represent hardworking, patriotic Americans, and those are the values that unite us. Unfortunately, those values are in scarce supply in our liberal, sequestered palaces of higher learning known as the University, which does not teach American history. Instead, they create a narrative of biased history for the indoctrination of legions of mind-numbed, half-wit Mortimer Snerds who flock to our university campuses, eager to have their minds redirected, refreshed and revitalized. They come out of freshman orientation with that thousand yard stare, and that gaping mouth, and things only go downhill from there. Stepford wives? That concept has got nothing on our university system.

If these schools teach nothing else about American history, they should at least touch on the many personal sacrifices made by Americans who served their country. They are a big reason why this nation stretches from sea to shining sea. They helped to build the nation these snot-nosed little poindexters take for granted. And if anyone in our society deserves our attention and respect, it is the American veteran. I am a veteran. I never served in combat, thank God, but I think I can speak for all veterans when I say, if it comes down to either your attention or your respect, we’ll take the respect, thank you very much.

In my opinion, the main stream news media and the Congressional black caucus deserve neither President Trump’s attention nor his concern for their welfare. Why should he care about anything they think? They hate him and demonstrate that hate every time the opportunity falls into their laps. Think about it: at every White House press briefing, these so-called journalists (bah) yell at the press secretary and won’t wait for an answer before yelling some more. They shout inane, nonsensical questions about things that are not of main concern to our republic or its citizens. And then, regardless of the answers they receive, they go back to their little cubicles and write whatever they want, as long as it is critical of the Trump administration. Nothing is out of bounds. Not his children, his family, his religion or his person. They are not doing the job their profession calls for: informing the American people of news happenings and occurrences and letting us determine for ourselves if they are good or bad for us. No. The MSM, broadcast and cable, will decide for us, and give us only the news that supports that hateful philosophy of theirs. They do not want to do their jobs, because they see bashing the president as an easy column to write, thus reliving themselves of any respect or responsibility for their craft. And relieve themselves they do. Just take a look at some of their rantings. I guarantee you will want to wash your hands.

The Congressional Black Caucus recently turned down an invitation to meet with President Trump in the White House. In a written statement they said his policies would, “…not only devastate the communities that we represent, but also many of the communities that supported your candidacy.” This is another group of Americans, like the main stream media, which is not doing the job for its people. Moreover, they will not and have never done the job for their people. The CBC has been in existence for 46 years, and what have they done to improve the conditions of the people they claim to represent? They’ve collected a great deal of money to insure the perpetuation of their Congressional seats, but let’s look at the facts: More black people on welfare and food stamps than ever before in history. More black people unemployed than ever in history. More black people living under the poverty line than any time in history. More blacks in jail, in gangs, being raised by single mothers, more black high school dropouts than ever before…shall I go on? These members of the CBC, while making certain their own nests are comfortably carpeted, have abandoned their people. The same people they claim to love and represent. Some representation.

Both of these groups should be dealt with in the same way by the President. To the news media, let them know that the press briefings will be held twice a week, once on Friday to recap the week, and once on Monday to recap the weekend. The ‘correspondents’ will sit in their assigned seats, listen quietly to the opening statement, and then raise their hands to ask questions in an organized and efficient manner. If they do not, and continue to scream at the press secretary with asinine, nonsensical questions, all press briefings will be suspended until proper rules of deportment can be agreed upon. What are they going to do? Lambast him in the media? Call him names on network television? Attack his family in print? Show hate and contempt for him? They already do that, so why feed them the ammunition?

To the Congressional Black Caucus I would say, you do not want to meet with the President of the United States to discuss the current plight of your people? From now on, I will give you nothing. Not even the time of day. And, since you are incapable of doing so, I will work to improve the mess you’ve made out of your communities, I will see to it that your people “…in the communities you represent…” get the fair treatment and representation they deserve. And I will ignore the CBC as much as you are ignoring me. Since you have made it clear you are not my constituency, why should I listen to, or be concerned with, anything you have to say? What are you going to do? Lambaste me in the media? Call me names on network television? Attack my family in print? Show hate and contempt for me? Hello, you already do that.

That’s what I want Trump to say, and to the CBC I say, shut your big mouths and take care of the people you claim you represent, and never forget, as long as you serve in Congress, just who is Muhammad and who is the mountain.

The Wall

In Washington D.C. it is impossible not to recognize the many buildings and statues and memorials celebrating the lives of Americans long past but never forgotten. The symbols are there to remind us that the only values we can truly glean from the past are the lessons that accompany it. Such a seminal lesson is taught every day at an isolated and sorrowful sight near the National Mall. They call it the Viet Nam Memorial, but members of our generation know it simply as the Wall. The Wall represents the errors and follies of the past. That war is long gone, but it lingers still and forever will in the names on the Wall. It has fallen to us, the living, to honor these brave people with our respect and our undying gratitude, especially from those of us who were fortunate enough not to become participants in a war that made no good sense. Theirs was a war of futility, of frustration and betrayal. Their country let them down and many did not come home. Many of those who did return did not go back to the farms and towns and cities of their childhood. They returned to a new home. They do not live with their families, they do not reside in the homes where they grew up. They no longer cruise Main Street with their girlfriends or go to ballgames with their buddies. They have a new home. They have taken up permanent residence on the Wall; their names are etched and shall forever remain on a massive slab of Gabbro rock. That beautiful, horrible Wall.

You can stand at the Wall in the quiet softness of the early D.C. morning, with trees in full bloom, and the soft breeze at your back, along that vast, beautiful expanse of lawn and grass which is the National Mall. You can hang your head in prayer at the Wall and listen closely, for the ghosts of our generation will speak to you, will share with you the horror and futility of an unwelcome combat war. You will hear the whispers of all 58,318 American men and women who perished or disappeared in that war. You will see their faces in the rice paddies and jungles of Viet Nam, reflected in that black, Gabbro Wall. You will see that faraway, thousand mile stare so common among combat soldiers. You will see all that, feel all that, but you can never know, unless you were there, what terrible, unforgettable horrors our boys encountered in the full bloom of their youth. You can weep, and your tears will fall to the Earth, where so many tears have fallen before, but they, too, will fall in vain. For those tears, and all the many millions that have been shed at the foot of the Wall, can irrigate nothing but regret. For nothing but regret can bloom in the shadow of the Wall.

Why don’t progressive liberals get it? With all their posturing, preening, whining and crying about how the country should be run, it is amazing to me that they miss the point. Collectively and unanimously, they miss the point: IT IS THE UNION, DAMMIT! Nothing is more important than the preservation of the Union. Thousands of Americans died establishing this Union, and six hundred thousand Americans died fighting to preserve it, and the Union survived even stronger than before. Abraham Lincoln certainly got it. Thomas Jefferson got it. James Madison got it. Teddy Roosevelt, FDR, JFK, Ronald Reagan. They all got it, and Donald Trump gets it, too. Our precious Union must survive all we deign to do to it, be it in the name of extreme liberalism or in the name of extreme conservatism. We are a blessed Union of independent states come together for a common goal: The preservation of the United States of America.
Our nation, in less than two hundred and fifty years, has risen from a rag tag group of British colonies dependent on the mother country for sustenance, to become the greatest nation in the history of this Earth. From sea to shining sea. More people, from all nations, religions and customs, have become successful in America than anywhere else in the world. Common people, from horribly poor and underprivileged nations, can come here and become successful, ensuring a good life for their following generations. Descendants of those and other immigrants were dispatched out into the world more than five times in the past century to save the world from those who would rule it in their own names.
And yet, some people in this country (and around the globe) resent American exceptionalism, indeed many of them scoff at it. They want America to be just another country in the scheme of the world, nothing special, nothing exceptional, nothing inspiring. Flat, like their view of the Earth. And what if they succeed (God knows they tried hard over the last eight years), and America becomes like Venezuela, or Argentina, or worse…France? What if, thanks to the meddling and chipping away of the left, that shining city upon a hill ceases to exist? What will that do to the hopes and dreams of the rest of the world? Where will they go to explore and discover the true measure of their potential? Cuba? I think not.
An America-less world means no more hope for the future. No ambition, no thirst for knowledge, no clear view to success. No more striving to become successful. Alas, no point. What could be worse for the world than losing hope? Without hope, life has no meaning. Hope is the essence of life, it is what makes our hearts beat and our blood surge. Hope is the best possible view of the future. Hope is tangible, built with enough handles so that all people can grab hold and pull themselves aboard. Without hope there is no future. Without hope there is no past. Without hope, there is only the present. And it never changes.
